Pandora is a desktop application to access your Pandora One service.
Pandora is a service that allows you to listen to streaming music, only in the United States. They offer a Free Service, that only allows you to play your tunes through your browser, and Pandora One, a paid service that entitles you to use it as a desktop application, and removes time limits and ads. It will only grant you a better audio quality, with fewer interrupts.

In order to use any of the Pandora services, you will have to get an account at www.pandora.com. Then, you can stay with the free service or upgrade to Pandora One. Should you want to test the paid service before buying it, you can get a trial for twenty four hours, that will allow to use all the features for such time.

Pandora allows you to create "stations", that will broadcast to your player the music you choose. You can pick a band, a musical genre or just a word, and the service will create a station with themes that match your criteria.

The Pandora desktop application needs you to have Adobe Air installed in your computer. You can install it directly from Pandora´s web site, or you can download the .AIR file to install it manually.

This program will play all the themes in your created station sequentially. A tiny window will pop-up when a new song starts. You can skip songs, or delete them from your created "station".

Review summary

Pros

  • The sound quality is good

Cons

  • None about the program itself, but about the service. The criteria to build the "stations" is rather weird, it includes themes in the list with little or no connection with the chosen criteria
  • Another drawback is that the service only works if your IP appears to belong to the USA
